What we ordered: reuben sandwich, a salad of frisee with blue cheese dressing, fries, cherry soda and a Tripel Karmeliet (beer, for those of us not in-the-know.) What we paid: about $53 with the tip and tax. By the way, we ordered ONE sandwich and split.
The food: loved the reuben with it's amazingly tender, perfectly spiced meat but I thought the potato salad and pickle on the side didn't really do this plate justice. The potato salad seemed a tad common and tasteless compared to the pastrami. However, the fries we ordered arrived piping hot and crispy while the cherry cola was a nice (non-beer) option for the meal.
The Refuge seemed to be quite the hot spot on Thursday night with most of the tables/booths full and the patrons talking at rather high decibels in order to be heard. Overall, a fun, delicious
dining option in San Carlos and quite possibly one of the best reubens I have ever tasted. Just don't expect ordinary sandwich prices!
