Flour + Water is a refreshing restaurant with great, housemade pastas (hence the name) and interesting combinations. Some of those combinations we didn't order (the warm potato salad with lamb's tongue) but possibly because we were fixated on the savory pear and fennel soup with cracked black pepper and taleggio crostini. Wow. That's a mouthful to say, and a delicious one to eat.
Our middle course was the pizza margharita. Overall, very good and even better with a little speck thrown on top (for a slightly salty, decadent spin). For our entree (again, my dining partner and I split) we sampled the pork-filled pasta served with a brown butter sauce. Delicious. But wait, there's more.
The crowning glory of the meal was the dessert. A chocolate budino with espresso-caramel cream and sea salt. Smooth, silky, sweet and then wham-o (always like to say that!) the subtle taste of salt. A surefire winner that's etched into my brain now!
I'd like to add as my final note here that this restaurant is tough to get into and reservations are scarce. However, we went on a Monday around 6pm and while the wait had started, a table was available about 30 minutes later. No reservations!
